In addition to there being a gap between athletic cultures, there is a lack of understanding of said cultures

After basketball practice last Sunday, I'm watching some of my kids play a game in a local rec league. Another one of my charges is sitting next to me and goes, "So, you are from North Carolina? You went to college?" I am a basketball player. From the United States. I am much more athletic and skilled than almost everyone over here. Of course.
